Silver Spangled Hamburgh

INTRODUCED

ORIGIN: Despite the name this breed had their beginnings in the north of England.

BREED DESCRIPTION: Hamburghs are small, light framed birds, active, flighty and require high fencing. These qualities make them excellent foragers. The spangled varieties originated from a mixture of European breeds. This diverse background resulted in a stylish bird with a distinct rose comb.

USE IN NEW ZEALAND: Brooding, show and eggs

GENERAL:Hamburghs are regarded as reasonably good layers and the spangled varieties as ornamental. Although they lay well their eggs are often very small.
