Chinese Geese

Anser cygnoides

INTRODUCED

ORIGIN: China

HABITAT: They like to stay close to water and prefer the banks surrounding lakes and farm ponds.

BREEDING: China geese have been recorded to lay up to 100 eggs in a single season! Incubation of the eggs is 28-34 days.

FOOD: Their main diet consists of seeds, grains and insects. They also eat a wide variety of vegetation and fresh grass shoots, which makes it a good grazing pet.

VIOCE: A series of loud honkings, usually given when in a gaggle (flock of geese) rather than singularly.

GENERAL: Smaller than other species of geese it is distinguishable from other geese by the knob or protuberance on its head. The brown/grey variety has a brown bill and eyes, and orange legs. Body feathers are brown but the belly is lighter. The white variety has a bright orange bill and legs, blue eyes and pure white body feathers.
