ORIGIN: Australia 

HABITAT: Pheasants prefer some cover such as long grass, they however will live on the surroundings of a paddock where a crop is growing. 

BREEDING: The male performs a mating display where he lowers his head and spreads his wings and tail. Two pure white eggs are laid in a fragile nest and the incubation period is 18 to 20 days. 

FOOD: Grains, seeds, berries and a selection of soft ripe fruits. 

VOICE: A whistling sound when it flies. Its voice is soft and musical and described as a "coo-ooo” sound. 

GENERAL: Also known as the Australian Crested Dove, both sexes are similar in colouration. They have a grey head, with an erect dark crest. The face is a soft grey with pinkish sides that extend to the sides of the breast. Its back, rump and upper tail covert are brownish-grey. The wings are grey, with broad tan and narrow black barring. The wing shield is prominent with a mirror-like metallic green and brilliant purple. Overall the general colour is grey-brown with red legs and feet.
