Galah

INTRODUCED 

DISTRIBUTION: Throughout Australia. Fewer than 100 galahs have been sited in the southern Auckland and northern Waikato districts, these are thought to be escapees from captivity. 

HABITAT: They favour forest patches in open country. 

FOOD: Galahs are mainly ground feeders eating a variety of seeds, nuts, cereals, weeds and vegetation. 

VOICE: A variety of calls, ranging from a single note to harsh, screeching calls. 

GENERAL: The galah is pink on the crest, crown, head, nape and underparts grading from pale to dark from crest to belly. Its back, wings, tail, legs and feet are grey, and the bill is horn coloured. They are a major pest to farm crops in Australia.
