2009/10 kiw season begins

Issue Date: 5 October 2009

We waited with much anticipation for the arrival of the first  kiwi eggs for the season. The first week of August saw the arrival of 1 Okarito and 1 Haast egg. Since then we have had a lot more eggs arriving. At this stage of the season we have had more eggs at one time than ever before. Before the first chicks started hatching we had a total of 32 eggs. This included three Great Spotted Kiwi eggs, one from the Paparoas and the other two from the Hurunui/Hawden area. The incubation room has been a hub of activity.
