Second Okarito Kiwi egg hatches

Issue Date: 14 September 2006

The second 'Operation Nest Egg' Okarito Kiwi egg has hatched. This is a program we are participating in with the New Zealand Department of Conservation and will boost the numbers of this critically endangered species of kiwi. Current numbers for this species are less than 200 so each chick that hatches is an extremely valuable addition to the species.
