Haast Tokoeka Chick hatchesIssue Date: 2 October 2006
The first Haast Tokoeka egg from the Operation Nest Egg program in partnership with New Zealand Department of Conservation hatched today. This program involves eggs being removed from the wild and brought to Willowbank Wildlife Reserve to be incubated. The chicks are sent to 'nursery' islands until they weigh over 1200grams at which point they are returned to the forest the egg originally came from.
