South Island Great Spotted Kiwi

The New Zealand Conservation Trust in partnership with Willowbank Wildlife Reserve has recently acquired a male Great Spotted Kiwi, Saxon, to start it's breeding program for this endangered South Island Kiwi breed.  Saxon has been paired with our female, Mohua, and we are hoping that they will begin to breed this season.

In addition to this we are now involved in saving this unique bird through being part of Nest Egg programmes for the Great Spotted Kiwi (GSK).  This is an exciting step forward in the conservation of these kiwi.
